The expansion of capitalism and the ideology of neoliberalism have led to the spread of economic values and market logic into non-economic spheres of social life, bringing about numerous consequences at the micro, meso, and macro levels of societies. Iran has not been exempt from this phenomenon, and in recent years, the commodification of social life has increasingly permeated the country. Therefore, this study systematically reviewed 104 domestic articles on commodification through a three-stage process to clarify the domains of commodification in Iranian literature.<br />The findings revealed that the topics affected by commodification fall into five categories: culture, land and housing, social issues, health, and the environment. Additionally, the trend of published articles indicated that since the mid-2010s, the spread of commodification has intensified in the fields of science, knowledge, higher education, housing, land and space, and health.<br />To provide a more comprehensive understanding of this field, a bibliometric analysis of international literature was conducted. The results of keyword co-occurrence analysis were grouped into five clusters, mainly revolving around commodification themes (such as land, housing, health, and the environment), actors involved in commodification (neoliberalism and capitalism, policymaking, and governmental interventions), and the consequences of commodification (well-being, justice, and uneven development).<br />Given that commodification targets essential needs such as education, housing, and healthcare—which can pose significant obstacles to achieving the four dimensions of health, social justice, public welfare, and national development—it is crucial to adopt appropriate policies and approaches, including supporting disadvantaged groups, to prevent the continuation and deepening of this issue.
